According to many dream researchers, everyone who appears in your dreams represents an aspect of you. Who inhabits your dreams? Do any particular characters turn up with regularity? What facets of yourself do you meet when you're asleep?

That's a gorgeous painting. What is that?
How do you know if it's a spirit guide, visiting entity, someone you've summoned -- or just another aspect of your personality??
Maybe you could simply ask whoever shows up why they've appeared, who they are, and what they want to share with you. Sometimes the emotional or feeling quality of the beings in your dreams, or the way you respond to their presence might offer clues.
Occasionally, I've been visited by entities from the other side. Once, a now-deceased woman who'd been a friend of my father, came in a dream to me to prepare me for Dad's passing (before he died). I'd never met this woman, but when I described her to someone who knew her, he recognized her immediately from my description--right down to the unique art and artifacts in her home. I experienced her as a very loving and welcoming wise woman, and the dream seemed more "real" than most of my dreams, not like a dream at all--perhaps that's a key?
I'd be interested to hear other people's thoughts on this subject.
